Overview of Destin

Destin is located in the Florida Panhandle boasting a rich historical heritage. One that dates back to American Indian inhabitants. Destin traces its immediate history to a fisherman, Captain Leonard Destin. He began sailing and fishing the gulf waters around 1835. After a series of mishaps, Captain Destin permanently settled in the area and pioneered the fishing industry. With the rich fishing history in Destin it is a great place to charter a boat for a day of fishing.

Growing from a small fishing village into a major tourist resort was not without growth pains. Finally, gaining charter as a municipality in 1984. Destin has become one of Florida’s premier resort destinations, offering many family friendly activities. Destin has existed more than 150 years. In addition, Destin is home to many beaches and parks providing an array of opportunities for beach lovers and trail lovers alike.

Housing some of the largest and most elaborately equipped fishing boats in the State of Florida, Destin is known as the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village.” Specifically, Destin offers many recreational opportunities including golf, tennis and water sports, like diving and snorkeling. With Destin being close to the 100 fathom curve, it provides for easy deep water access, so you can spend more time fishing with less time getting to the fishing spots.
